~Welcome Autumn~

Is not this a true autumn day? Just the still melancholy that I love — that makes life and nature harmonize. The birds are consulting about their migrations, the trees are putting on the hectic or the pallid hues of decay, and begin to strew the ground, that one’s very footsteps may not disturb the repose of earth and air, while they give us a scent that is a perfect anodyne to the restless spirit. Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. ~George Eliot, letter to Miss Lewis, 1st October 1841

Simple Fall Decorating

I love the fall season- especially the fall season of California. Some foggy mornings, sunny afternoons, and cold nights. Sweaters, scarves, fluffy blankets, pajamas, hot coco, the earth tone colors of brown, beige and olive green, and the color plum. All things cozy.

But how swiftly will this time take us to Christmas as retail stores
entices us with beautiful holiday merchandise way before the gift-giving season comes.

So I spare myself some work and settle for a simple fall display. This way I can revel in the coziness of this wonderful time of the year.

Loving the Autumn Season

"Just before the death of  flowers and before they are buried in snow,
There comes a festival season
When nature is all aglow."- Author Unknown

“How beautifully leaves grow old. How full of light and color are their last days.”
John Burroughs

"Autumn begins with a subtle change in the light, with skies a deeper blue, and nights that become suddenly clear and chilled. The season comes full with the first frost, the disappearance of migrant birds, and the harvesting of the season's last crops."
-Glenn Wolff and Jerry Dennis

"No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace as I have seen in one autumnal face."
-John Donne

“Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last
beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.”
― Lauren DeStefano, Wither

“Autumn...the year's last, loveliest smile.”
-William Cullen Bryant

“I loved autumn, the one season of the year that God seemed to have put there just for
 the beauty of it.”
― Lee Maynard

The fall season begins on September 22nd.
